1. Off-Grid Systems
As the name suggests, this system is independent of utility grids (discomms) and stores all the unused additional power in battery banks. It is commonly installed in areas that have frequent power outage or low sunlight. The battery banks provide backup power during such hours.

- It is more expensive than On-Grid systems as batteries are expensive to replace.

2. On-Grid Systems
This is the most popular Solar PV system mainly installed in residential, industrial and business areas that have regular power supply from the utility grid. Excess energy is sent to the utility grid for which you either get credited to your electricity bill or paid depending on the state laws.
- Cheapest Solar PV system, since it requires the lowest no of components for setup
- Lowest maintenance costs
- Exchange excess energy with the utility grid
- Reduce the burden of high tariff electricity bills, year on year tariff increase (avg. 2%)
- Can be upgraded to a Hybrid Solar PV system
- Higher efficiency than Off-Grid systems since it is grid dependent
- Does not have a backup for electricity outage
- Since it is dependent on the utility grid there is no power during an outage
3. Hybrid Systems
As the name suggests, this type of system is a combination of both on-grid and off-grid systems where the system is connected to the grid and also has a battery backup. It is installed in areas that cannot depend on their electricity providers and require a backup during inconsistent power cuts.
- Eliminates the possibility of having no power
- Extra energy is exchanged with the utility company
- Battery setup is based on requirements
- More expensive than on-grid Solar PV Systems.
- Batteries will require maintenance as they have a limited life
